Growing up in northern Ohio in the late 1950s - early '60s, every summer we would make the then18 hour drive to southern KY to visit relatives. The interstate highways were still under construction so each year would be a journey of hop-on for awhile, then off to old 2-lane roads, then on to another stretch of interstate(the same drive can now be made in about 7 1/2 hours).
